Important: To avoid data loss (i.e., emails, contacts, calendar events, etc.), you must create a backup of your data prior to moving from Network Solutions email to Office 365.

Overview

Office 365 is hosted on a different server than our nsMail service. Moving an email service from nsMail to Office 365 will require the process detailed below.

Note: This process will require some downtime starting with step 2 and lasting until all steps have been completed and the DNS propagates, which could take up to 4 hours. During this time, it will not be possible to receive incoming emails. Please ensure you have sufficient time to perform these steps to ensure minimum disruption to your email service.

Please follow the steps below.

Step 1 – Backup your Data

Note: It is not possible to have mailboxes associated with a domain to be hosted with Office 365 and another email service simultaneously. All of the mailboxes on a domain must be moved to the Office 365 service.

For each mailbox that is moving from nsMail to Office 365, make a backup of the data.

Outlook Users on PC Using POP/IMAP

  1. 1. Navigate to File > Open & Export > Import (don’t worry; this includes exporting options as well).
  2. 2. Select Export to a File > Outlook Data File (.pst).
  3. 3. Select the name of the account you are backing up and not just the folder Inbox (e.g., jane@janesbagels.com), then click Next.
  4. 4. Note the location of where you save this file and the name of the file you create (you can change this by clicking the button labeled Browse). Leave the option “Replace Duplicates…” selected and click Next.
  5. 5. (Optional) add a password to your Data File. This is not necessary or commonly used.

Step 2 – Unassign nsMail Boxes

Note: This step will start your downtime. Once you un-assign an account, all incoming emails to that account will be rejected, and the messages will bounce back to the sender.
  1. 1. Click here to log in to Network Solutions Account Manager.
  2. 2. On the left side of the page, click Email.
  3. 3. In the Current Emailboxes section, check the box(es) of any mailboxes you are un-assigning and click Unassign at the bottom of the screen. You may need to repeat this process if you have multiple pages of accounts.
Note: All mailboxes under the domain name you plan to set up in Office 365 must be unassigned.
  4. 4. Select Continue to complete the unassign process.
  5. 5. Log out of your Network Solutions Account Manager.
  6. 6. Log back into your Account Manager to verify all of the boxes for your domain name have been unassigned.

  2. 2. On the left side of the page, click Microsoft Office 365.
  3. 3. Click Assign First User.
  4. 4. Choose whether to use a domain in your Network Solutions account or another domain and follow the prompts to assign the domain and create a user.
