Examples of related services associated with your domain name include the following products:

  • Websites
  • Hosting
  • eCommerce
  • Email

When a domain name is transferred to a new registrar, the related services do not move over to the new provider as part of that process.

What happens to related services depends on the type of service. Related services fall into two categories

Proprietary Services

Proprietary services were created by your current provider, who controls the features and functionality of these services.

Generic Services

Generic services like WordPress Hosting and Outlook Email are offered by multiple vendors and do not depend on your current provider’s infrastructure. Please contact your current provider before starting the transfer if you are unsure whether the service is generic or proprietary.

What Should You Do Next?

As long as you do not modify the current DNS of the domain name, downtime for related generic services during transfer is very unlikely. You may continue to pay for and manage those related services at your current provider if you so wish.

Depending on your current provider’s policies, proprietary services may no longer function during or after a domain name transfer without special action. Please contact your current provider to learn more.
