If I configure the account as POP, will my Mac Mail pull messages out of my Webmail? How do I Leave a copy of the messages on the server?

By default, your device is set to pull messages off of the server. You can change this behavior by following these steps:

  1. 1. Open Mail.
  2. 2. From the main toolbar, click Mail and then click Preferences.
  3. 3. Click the account for which you are making the changes.
  4. 4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. 5. Uncheck the option: Remove copy from server after retrieving a message.
  6. 6. Close the window and click Save Changes if prompted.

There was an update done to my Mac and now my email does not work.
The system tells me the SMTP server is offline. What happened?

Sometimes during updates, certain settings will revert to their default values. Since you have customized your settings, it may be necessary to update some of your custom settings after the update.

  1. 1. Open Mail.
  2. 2. From the main toolbar, click Mail and then Preferences.
  3. 3. Click the account for which you are making the changes.
  4. 4. Using the information in Steps 10 and 11 in the Mac Email setup article, verify all of the information in account information is correct.
  5. 5. Click the Advanced tab.
  6. 6. Verify the Port, Use SSL, and Authentication settings are correct according to Step 12 in the Mac Email setup article.

When I attempt to send a message, the message sits in my Outbox and is listed as unsent.
My Outgoing server says it is offline. How do I update my Outgoing Server settings?

This is typically a result of an incorrect setting related to your Outgoing mail server. Please ensure you have entered your full email address as the username as well as the password that was set when creating the mailbox. Also, ensure the Outgoing server is correct. You can reference the table in Step 10 to verify the settings.

To update and verify the Outgoing Server Settings, perform the following steps:

  1. 1. Open Mail.
  2. 2. From the main toolbar, click Mail and then click Preferences.
  3. 3. Click the account for which you are making the changes.
  4. 4. Using the information in Steps 10 - 12 in the Mac Email setup article, verify that the information is correct.

How do I switch from POP3 to IMAP if my account is already configured?

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to switch from POP3 to IMAP. You will need to set up the account again using the above steps, selecting IMAP instead of POP during Step 3. If you need to back anything up, it is recommended that you contact Apple Support for assistance.

I am using IMAP, but not all of my folders are showing. 
How do I subscribe to all folders?

Follow the steps below to ensure that all of your folders are properly syncing between the server and your Mac Mail:

  1. 1. Open Mail.
  2. 2. From the main toolbar, click Mail and then click Preferences.
  3. 3. Click the account for which you are making the changes.
  4. 4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. 5. Verify that the IMAP Path Prefix is set to INBOX.
  6. 6. Close the Accounts window.
  7. 7. Control-click or right-click the INBOX icon under the mailboxes column on the left hand side.
  8. 8. Click Get Account Info.
  9. 9. Click the Subscription List tab.
  10. You will see the list of folders that are subscribed or not subscribed for synchronization with your IMAP account. You can select the folder and SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE with the buttons at the bottom left of the panel.
