How do I switch from POP3 to IMAP inside on my iPhone/iPad?

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to switch from POP3 to IMAP. You will need to set up the account again using the above steps, selecting IMAP instead of POP during step 6 in the setup article. For more information, please review the article How Do I Set Up Email on My iPhone and/or iPad? If you need to back anything up, it is recommended to contact Apple Support for assistance.

I am using IMAP, but not all of my folders, such as my sent, drafts, and trash are showing. How do I subscribe to all folders?

Follow the steps below to ensure that all of your folders are properly syncing between the server and your iPhone/iPad:

  1. 1. Tap Settings.
  2. 2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. 3. Tap the account for which you are making the changes.
  4. 4. Tap Advanced.

For each local folder, select the corresponding server folder by completing the steps below:

  1. 1. Tap Drafts and then select the Draft folder that is listed under the section titled ON THE SERVER.
  2. 2. Tap Sent and then select the Sent folder that is listed under the section titled ON THE SERVER.
  3. 3. Tap Deleted Mailbox and then select the Trash folder that is listed under the section titled ON THE SERVER.

When deleting a message, I get a message that states Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox trash.

This is a result of the trash folder having a different naming convention between the mail server and the iPhone/iPad. However, it can be easily corrected by updating the subscription to the correct folder using the same steps to update IMAP folder subscriptions:

  1. 1. Tap Settings.
  2. 2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. 3. Tap the account for which you are making the changes.
  4. 4. Tap Advanced.
  5. 5. Tap Drafts and then select the Draft folder that is listed under the section titled ON THE SERVER.
